BioMCN receives European Responsible Care Award

BioMCN (together with DuPont Asturias of Spain and BASF, Germany) was named as winner of the European Responsible Care® Awards for 2008. Cefic President Francois Cornélis, who presented the awards at the Cefic Annual General Assembly in Athens, Greece, said: "Responsible Care meets the challenges of sustainable development. Each of these projects illustrates how innovative the chemical industry is, especially with regard to the sustainable use of resources and the contribution to fighting against climate change".

BioMCN received its award for the best submission from an SME (small/medium enterprise) for its work to develop an industrial scale process to convert crude glycerine into bio methanol. The judges commended the approach being adopted which seeks to ‘dramatically reduce' greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to take measures to avoid negative effects on food production and land use which have become major issues associated with the production of some biofuels.
