Bio-hydrogen
Hydrogen is a promising potential future carrier of energy because it burns very cleanly. However, the infrastructure costs associated with full conversion to a hydrogen economy are substantial, due to the volume of hydrogen gas that needs to be transported safely to filling stations.
One way to avoid these problems is to convert bio-methanol to hydrogen at the filling station, allowing shipment with conventional trucks.
Besides transportation fuels, the use of methanol in methanol-to-hydrogen fuel cells is starting to be used in other application, e.g. in the electronics of laptops and mobile telephones.
